How does your experiences of media consumption illustrates wider patterns and trends?

How does your experiences of media consumption illustrates wider patterns and trends?

In society technology has hugely developed and changed therefore the experience that I get from  exhibition has widened in opportunities for me however this wouldn't be successful without production, distribution and exchange as how the film was made and advertised is how I was made aware of watching a lot of films.

To begin with the production of the film contributed to my media consumption experience this is because even though the production is something I don't see from further research on particular case studies I discovered that the technology in the filming process had been updated to digital. A major American company that used this was Eon productions which produced the film Sky Fall. This company used digital cameras to film Sky Fall and this film was the first James Bond film to use this digital technology. Therefore this saved them money because even though the quality of print was very good the digital technology doesn't ware out it stays a consistent quality therefore in time over riding prints. Digital is also much cheaper therefore the marketing company 'Sony'  will have more money to raise awareness and put a better impact on my experience of media consumption. Furthermore in the production process of filming for example 'Avatar' to increase my media experience of consuming the film they have had to separately produce this film in 3D this has been done so that in my experience I consume films in a new  way so that I gain a better atmosphere as well as it being a unique experience as its different to consuming the film by Netflix or DVD when watching the film. In my experience I don't own a 3D technology in my house therefore to consume the film Avatar I went to the exhibitor which in this case is a cinema. However the films Ill manors and Fish tank didn't have a bigger enough budget to film their films in 3D as they were only small British companies.

Marketing also has been part of my experience of how I consume the media this is because in order for myself to know about specific films that I am interested in watching I have consumed adverstisment. These are for example in Sky Fall there was several tie ins that I had consumed on my TV that advertised Sky Fall this was the main star of the film Daniel Craig in the heineken beer advert taking a sip of the beer and he was part of the campaign. By myself consuming this was part of how I became aware of the film Sky Fall. I also consumed posters on billboards and bus stations with the Coca-Cola advert also advertising 007 which relates to the film Sky Fall which also was part of my awareness of the film. Also by myself using the web 2.0 for example going on YouTube to download music made me come across trailers for example SkyFall released the sound track sang by Adele called Sky Fall at the same time as the trailer and film release this is cross media convergence as its two different mediums combining to publicise a film. This also shows that Sony is vertically integrated because Sony own all the companies that were involved in Sky Fall for example Columbia studios contracted Adele which Sony owned. Simile Ill Manors also used cross media convergence because plan B released their album Ill Manors at the same time as the release of the film. Therefore by myself being aware of the music rose my awareness of the film which made me consume the film.

Exhibition was a huge part of my media consumption and this is because it was how I consumed all different films I was interested in. The main way I consume films is by DVD on my T.V this is because I live locally to the town where I can purchase films which I then watch in the comfort of my own home on my own, with friends and family. It is also a much cheaper way to consume a film and I can watch it any time of day and anytime I like. Consuming a film by DVD has shown in research that its a very popular way to watch a film this is because for example the film Sky Fall had the DVD sales of $44,999,713.which shows this to be a popular trend. Another way I consume a film is going to the cinema this isn't very often but when there is a film that has been advertised so much to get me excited I watch it. The advertisement I see is mainly teaser trailers on TV. Also another reason I go to the cinema to consume a film is because of the overall experience of buying my popcorn and fanta frozen and then sitting in-front of a large screen with no distractions just high quality surround sound makes the film 100 times better to consume. By going to the cinema also markets other films in the adverts before which then is a continued pattern of going back to the cinema to consume this film. Lastly I sometimes also watch films through illegal sights this is done by technological convergence this is because I access more than one technology to consume a film. For example to watch Ill Manors I went on my laptop to access web 2.0 to then access a code on Youtube to consume the film. This can also be done via ipads and tablets. This way of consuming films illegally is lead by piracy which has been attempted to be prevented because in several cases cinema staff have caught people videoing the film during the showing.

Overall I feel that my main consumption of the media is through DVD and this was contributed by the development of marketing as new marketing skills and technologies have majorly developed as the film institutions are being very competitive therefore pressures are rising to catch the attention of wider audiences. Films also follow convention patterns of a particular genre therefore the importance of the genre also is a major part of whether I look into what the film is about through the marketing and then consume the film by exhibition.
