Representation of disability- summer
In this clip I'm going to show the representation of Disability through camera shots, sound, mise-en-scene and editing. The definition of disability is a physical or mental condition that limits a persons movements, sense or activities.
The first camera shot I identified that shows the representation of disability was a birds eye view high angle shot this shows the scene of a bedroom the diegetic sound of the boy on the right narrating shows that he is talking perfectly fine with older and maturer furniture therefore he is represented to be 'normal' Whereas the boy on the left has bright child like bed covers with toys on the floor this shows that he could have an disability through being represented to be younger than what he is and by having to rely on sharing a room with his brother because he isn't capable of doing things without his help. This high angle shot allows us as the consumers to see the contrast between the brothers this allows us to identify and see the disability much easier. The diegetic sound of the upbeat music contrasts with the diegetic sound of the voice over of the boy who is 'normal' represented to be very arrogant and not respectful over his brothers disability this is through the words 'last summer I decided to kill my brother' where as the diegetic upbeat music establishes the disabled boy as very happy and jolly. This camera angle also zooms inwards this is at a slow pace and is there to show movement and to see closer into the contrast between the two brothers.
The second camera shot I identified to represent disability is a close up shot of the brother who is handicapped his appearance is obvious that he is represented to have a disability and his very simple language of a diegetic speech 'I like weetabix' this represents disability to be simple minded compared to the other brother who's vocabulary is very complex when he speaks. Before this there is a close up shot of the other brother who is represented to be 'Normal' saying 'you ate all the bloody weetabix' the harsh language that he uses to speak to his brother who has a disability is very rude and shows that the producer has represented this character to have more control over people with disability which shows that disability in this clip is shown to be weak and powerless.
There is another close up of the brother who is represented to be 'normal' explaining with diegetic speech to his brother who has a disability about 'how they kills pigs' he uses very graphic words for example ' 10,000 volts straight to there head' the boy who is represented to have a disability replies in another close up shot with 'I want to be a vegetarian' this shows that the producer has represented disability in this clip to be extremely influenced through who's around them and to be frightened easily.
Another camera shot is a medium shot of the back of the fathers back his diegetic speech saying ' go keep on an eye in him will ya, I don't want him making a mess like yesterday' this shows that the producer is representing disability in this clip being unable to do simple tasks without assistances.
Next there is a long shot that I have identified showing the representation of disability this shows the brother represented to be 'normal' walking along the path with his brother who has a disability following him. This shows that the producer has represented disability through following other people's actions this is a stereotypical child like thing to do. This clip also shows that the brother who is represented to be 'normal' doesn't want to be associated with his brother who has a disability as he's walking a head of him this is very rude and indicates that he has no symphony for his brother and treats helping him as a chore.
Theres another long shot of 'Ben' learning to ride his bike with his dad's help this shows that the producer has represented disability to be slow learners and to always have to have someone they can depend on. While this camera shot is being shown there is a diegetic voice over of the other brother saying' you have to always read them books and buy them educational toys' this shows that the representation of disability in this clip is that the boy who has a disability always has to be deeply taught about education because of there needs they struggle with this.
Theres another high angle shot of the brother who is represented to be 'normal' drawing on his page instead of listening to the teacher this shows that this could be an escape for him because looking after his brother who has a disability is a lot of work and he has to work his life around his brothers.
Lastly there is a medium close up shot of the brother who has disability 'Ben' showing a reaction shot of him being very scared and worried this is because his brother who is meant to take him home has left him this shows that the producer has represented disability to be very un independent and always relying on others because they struggle to to things on there own because of there disability.
The miss-en-scene of this clip is that the lighting is very basic and duel this is because it shows the feeling of the diegetic narrating of the brother who is represents to be 'normal' to be very depressed and an angry that he has to always look after his brother.
The editing of this clip is that there are straight cuts and this is to keep the shots flowing and at a pace that wont confuse the audience. The cuts are very fast at the end when the brother who has a disability is on the bus this is to show all the action happening on the bus and to emphasis how scared Ben is.

Section B
What significance does the continuing development of digital media and technology have for media institutions and audiences? You should focus on FILM but you may reference to other media such as music, newspaper, radio, magazines or video games.
The continuing development of digital media and technology has had a massive significance on the film industry. This is because the film industry is discovering and finding out new ways to develop there technology in order to find easier ways to distribute there product. For example there is a new technology called 'Online streaming platform' this gives the audience who are purchasing this film to download it straight to there computer or even there smart phones or other devices. This has saved distributors a lot of money because the money they would spent on putting the film on a digital disc and packaging it they have saved. Furthermore with the development of new technology distributors also save money on releasing the film to the exhibitors. This is because where in the past they would of had to process a reel of film they now only have to send the production file from computer to computer. This saves time and money which shows how successful the development of technology is. This is showing that old digital discs are being less popular and downloading is becoming very popular.
Media and technology has made it easier for people to access new technology this is because of the marketing of it as almost everywhere you go there are banners, posters, advertisements on TV and radio. Also big companies like Universal, Pixar and Disney have the money to invest and develop there films from 2D to 3D. This has allowed the consumption of the film at the exhibitor more thrilling and exciting to watch. There technology has adapted and developed as it began with the drawing of the animation on paper and now they are animating on new software's on the computer. Both Disney and Pixar have developed there technology and are a clear form of convergence as Pixar will benefit from Disney's developed distribution and Disney can benefit from Pixar's finical and successful content of there releases. The new technology of 3D films can also be seen in your own home. This can happen by owning the technology of a 3D player, 3D digital disc and 3D glasses all these technologies listed are very expensive and not many people have these therefore out of the two exhibitors the cinema and imax are the most popular and are where the most profit is made.
All though the development of technology has been success in film it also has been a success in other products for example the internet has hugely developed to allow people to access latest news about films by web pages, watch trailers, watch parts of films and special clips on YouTube and many more. Technological convergence is where different technologies come together YouTube is an example of this as the technology of youtube shows the distribution of a trailer this is affective for audiences because they can access trailers via the internet. It also is affective for the institutions because this gives them another technology where they can market there film. Also you can view this from your smart phone, Ipad and tablet this is so that you can access all this information about media products while commuting or at work. This creates more popularity knowing that you don't have to be in the comfort of your own home to access media films you can also access it when you are out.
Imax is one of the biggest leading entertainment technology companies. Imax shows motion pictures come to life and look as if its appearing right in front of your eyes. This new developed technology is significant to its audiences as it interacts and connects with them. Imax is an exhibitor however it also impacts the production because the imax disc is needed to release films into the imax this will cost a lot of money therefore the company will need to invest in a lot of money. Imax's aren't just used for 3D films its also used for 2D films the difference with consummating the film in a imax to a cinema is the screen of the imax is a lot bigger and can show higher quality motion picture. 3D films are also a new technology that can involve CGI which stands for computer generated imagery and shows the 3D computer graphics to special effects. CGI is a way to animate movies without having to use actors/actresses and physical props. Shrek is the fifth film released using CGI ever to the cinema. Shrek was made in 2001 was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson. The productions involved in this film were Dream works animations, Dream works pictures and Pacific data images. This film was 100% made using the computer and the impact that it had on its audience is that they found it astonishing to watch as each detail that went into this film took 10 years to make and three of these years was the CGI this shows how complex and time consuming this new technology takes to create a stunning movie. Lastly another new technology is green screen this where there will be a green screen as a back drop and this will allow different scenarios to be behind the actors/actresses. For example the back drop could transform to the sky this will show the characters flying this new technology is part of the production of the film and makes certain scenes look more realistic so when the film is sent to the exhibitors the people consuming the film believe the film is real and they aren't just sitting in a cinema.

In conclusion I feel that the development of technology has been a good affect on audiences and for institutions. This is because for the audience it allows them to watch the films any where they like via a range of technology and for institutions it allows more publicity for there film and greater success through the new technology that is very successful and popular.

Gender Dr Who clip
This clip represents gender through the camera angles, sound, mise-en-scene and editing. Gender is the state of having the traits of being masculine or feminine.
The first camera shot I identified was the beginning shot of the man being close up and a blur behind him of a young women dominated by two body guards. This camera shot is the editing of depth of filed and this was used to show the representation of masculinity through the authoritative facial expression and costume of a blazer and tie which gives the man a smart and powerful business look which is stereotypical for the men to be the main money earners. The camera is focused on him to show his importance and power.
The next camera angle I identified was a low angle shot (0.14) this is of the villain who is represented to be masculine through his actions of crossing his arms and standing tall in power. With the women beside him represented to be feminine through her long curled hair and red dress which has conations of danger which shows a hint of what's going to happen. Her whole look was very glamorous. Where as the other women who is closer to the camera shot is shown to be looking up at him this is emphasised through the low angle shot and shows her lower status. However her hair being tied back and her navy all in on outfit represents her to be masculine.
Next there is a close up of the clock counting down this has a diegetic ticking sound to it and has been used to show suspense for the audience to be on edge.
Furthermore there is a high angle shot used of the Doctor who has been turned into a weak and vulnerable man the high angle shot emphasises this has the camera looking down on him makes him seem weak and powerless. This represents being femine and struggling for power.
Also there is a medium shot of two women dressed in maid like outfits this has a representation of being femine as this is a stereotypical women's feminine job as women are stereotypically meant to stay at home to cook, clean and look after the children.
Lastly there is a establishing shot of the whole setting. This establishes the genre of the clip through the mise-en-scene this is because the lighting is very blue and mystical. The furniture is space like and the machines are all conventions of a sci-fi genre.
The sound also is a main part that represents gender this is because there is a non-diegetic sound that starts from the beginning this is when the man is standing with power and the women is shown to be low status and weak. This music represents masculinity through its low sharp noises to build suspense and indicate power. However this non-diegetic sound changes when the women starts to laugh this is to signal a change and to show her masculinity shining through as her power and faith is portrayed with her voice getting louder in enthusiasm and overcoming the villain.
The editing in this clip also shows representations of gender this is through eye line matches. There is quite a few in this clip but one example is at the beginning when the man and women are directly looking at each other this shows the masculine representation of the man as he has a strong look and is showing dominance where as the women is looking very scared and not fully looking at him at all times to show her weakness. This clip also used a flash back which shows the editing technique of a montage. This is shown from a cross dissolve and the women is represented to be feminine and masculine through her struggle in the strong weather condition this shows her feminine side as she is struggling ins strength however her masculine side is when all the people are looking up to her as she is controlling there thoughts and telling them a story. There is also a zoom that is used zooming inwards showing a man he is represented to be masculine through his dirty face and worn out clothes however he isn't afraid when the body guard points a huge gun at him. Lastly the straight cuts in this clip are a very quick pace this to build the intensity of the relationship between the villain and the women.

Media- sexuality
In this clip it shows the representations of the sexualities of being heterosexual and lesbian. Sexuality is a persons sexual orientation or preference.
The first camera angle that showed the representation of sexuality was a medium close up this was of two young women looking into a mirror with the women behind holding up a dress for her. This camera shot allows the background of the scene to be shown. There was a diegetic voice over in the background of the women behind her saying 'She looked so beautiful' this was said in a very calm and graceful tone. This could show that the representation of this women is that she is a lesbian through her attraction towards this other women as she is complementing her. However she isn't directly to her face which could show that this women who is represented as a lesbian to be very shy and scared to admit that she is attracted to the same sex as her. The transaction between this camera shot to the next is a dissolve this has been put in as the two camera shot relate to each other as the women who is holding up the dress dissolves into the library where the love she felt for the women she can release.
Following this shot is a dolly shot which is in a library. This setting of a library looks very old and wooden with dark lighting to show that this space is a quite escape with no distractions. This women is sitting down which could indicate that she is escaping reality as the attraction she has for this other women is to overwhelming for her. There is a diegetic voice over of the lesbian women saying ' she even changed my uncles books, the words came alive' this shows that the producer has represented lesbians to be absolutely amazed and attached to the women they are in love with. The diegetic piano music being played in this camera shot is very elegant and graceful and is part of the story she is telling about love. This diegetic piano music indicates that this genre is a costume drama as classical music is a main convention for this particular genre.
After this is a zoom in camera shot who the women who is representing a lesbian running her fingers in thin air over the other women's body. The zooming inwards is very slow and effortless this has been done to fit the intense and sexual atmosphere and to create tension between both the characters. This shows that this women who is a lesbian has sexual attraction towards this women and has an urge to touch her but her representation of being very shy and scared stops her from doing what she wants to do and being the sexuality she wants to be. The camera shot is at a low angle to show the women sitting up to be at a higher status as earlier in the clip the women sleeping called her 'Miss' in respect. The lighting in this camera shot is very dark and intimidate to emphasis the movement that the women sitting up is doing.
There is then a fade to black and a fade up again to show an ending to a scene to a new one. The non-diegetic, asynchronous sound of birds tweeting show that its the day time. The setting is full of nature and a lake this shows relaxation. The colours of this new setting are very neutral and green which show the beauty of nature. There are several close up shots which represent sexuality this is of the women who is a lesbian staring deeply then a eye match close up shot of the women asleep body which is what she is looking at. This shows her passion for this lady and her attraction again as she is love struck when staring at her. The women represented as the lesbian is shown to be expressing her feelings towards this other women while she is sleeping therefore when this other women cant see them. This shows that the producer has represented lesbian to be very conscience and scared to show there true feeling towards there attraction. The pace of the cutting gets quicker as the male comes in to shot this is to emphasis his forcefulness towards the women. The pitch of the diegetic piano music also becomes lower and sharper to create a threatening tone and establish the character of the male more.
Furthermore there are extreme close up shots of the women who is a lesbian dropping her paint of her paint brush while she is staring at the women she is in love with. The music is very sharp when the paint drops this shows that the man is beginning to realise that this women is a lesbian and is in love with the same sex as herself.
Following this is a long shot of the man who is representing being heterosexual dragging her across to a tree. This shows that the producer is representing straight men to be very intimidating and rough.
Who makes sure that they are dominating the opposite sex. There then is a medium close up of the heterosexual man saying ' she'd laugh in your face if she knew' this is a very manipulative thing to say and shows that the producer has represented heterosexual men in this clip to be very insecure when they don't have control because in this situation this women who is represented as a women doesn't love him anymore but has falling in love with a women. Further evidence that show that this women who is representing lesbians is over him and in love with the same sex as herself is because the man goes to kiss her and she turns her head very abruptly.
Lastly I have identified a medium long shot that represents sexuality as the women who is lower class taking her top off to get in her sleep wear very slowly and a close up camera shot of the women representing to be a lesbian scrunching her quilt to her face as the producer is representing her to be very scared to express her feelings and emotions however she is forcing herself not to as well.
There is a diegetic sound of a piano playing throughout this clip which is very slow and mysterious which represents the women who is lesbians secret that she hasn't told anyone about her sexuality. However when the heterosexual man finds out the piano tune becomes very tense.
The mis-en-scene of this clip is that the women are wearing very long dresses with there hair tied back very neatly with elegant gloves and the man is wearing a full suit with a waist coat. These costumes do not identify there sexuality however there actions do. The main action that shows that the upper class women is a lesbian is when she is laying besides her lover on the bed having the urge to touch her body. This shows a sexual attraction however the man shows that he is straight with the words when he says 'Marry me' this is said in a very intimating way as the heterosexual man keeps a macho attitude as he wants to come across very dominating and masculine but really he feels very insecure that this women doesn't love him. The lighting in this clip is sometimes very dark this shows mystery and gives a sinister feel to the clip.
In conclusion the producer has shown the representation of being lesbian and heterosexual to be both very insecure and afraid however the representation of being heterosexual covers this with dominance where as the representation of being a lesbian doesn't.
