To what extent does digital distribution affect the marketing and consumption of media products in the area of media you have studied?
Digital distribution affects the marketing and consumption of media in a positive way because firstly the companies that release films and market them to the public will only benefit if the cost of duplicating film prints and sending them to cinemas is fees able. I have researched and discovered that the UK is one of the most expensive markets in the world to release films with. However using a digitally produced film will deliver quicker and more reliable. It is now delivered to cinemas through a lock email which is a much safer way so that the distributors know its secure and private.
Also because of digital distribution its made it easier for distributors to deliver newly cut digital trailers to cinemas at very short notice. However digital distribution affects the marketing and consumption of media products in the film industry also because more people tend to watch films in the comfort of their own homes, rather than taking trips to the cinema, and have become more dependent on the internet.
Therefore when companies market there film they do everything digitally via the internet. This was by websites, YouTube and televisions for example advertisement between programs. This allows the public to become aware of the film and to really want to watch the film as there excited about it. Most of the people these days wait until the film has been released on DVD so they can permanently have it or watch it on the internet. This has therefore decreased the film industry in consumption as less people are paying for a ticket to go watch the film. Further more most of them were paying online distributors as packages to watch the film for example love film and Netflix.
